Why TeacherLine?
- Faculty learn from the best
Developed by leading educational producers and some of the
foremost experts in education, every course is standards-
and research-based and content rich.
- Immediate results
Courses relate directly to curriculum and classroom activities,
including designing projects or lesson plans incorporating
course materials; teachers readily apply their learned knowledge.
- Assured learning
Our emphasis on evaluation assures that teachers who successfully
complete a course have met the course goals.
- Peer exchange
Want your teachers to focus on a particular subject together
in a group by themselves? No problem, we can set that up
for you. Want them to learn with regional peers? We offer
several such courses throughout the year. Prefer they exchange
ideas with national peers? Covered too - national courses
run 4 times a year.
- No need to hire a substitute
Since TeacherLine courses are delivered online, teachers
wont need to miss out on classroom time.
By
providing TeacherLine courses to your faculty, you can:
PBS
TeacherLine courses ensure quality with research-based content
and methodologies
- Our
courses, primarily developed under a grant from the Department of
Education, follow strategies that have met rigorous evaluation by an independent evaluator and incorporate best practices
developed over six years. [Review key findings from RDLA195 Teaching Reading Fluency course research.]
- All
PBS TeacherLine courses have dedicated facilitators who
stimulate participation, make online learning accessible
for those new to the medium, and provide a crucial element
of social interaction to online learning. This facilitated
and discussion group format is based in social development
theory in which learners' involvement in "communities
of practice" allows learning to occur as a function
of the activity and context. Our basis in situated learning
theory distinguishes our courses from self-paced ones.
- Our
content is developed in collaboration with major professional
organizations and leading experts in instructional strategies
and content, such as NCTM, NASA, the National Board, McRel, and ISTE.
- Our
courses incorporate metacognition activities such as prior-reflection,
self-monitoring and debriefing, drawing on constructivist
theory and the "habits of mind" framework. Courses
not only teach pedagogical theories, they utilize them.
- All
of our courses include guidance in modifying teachers' instructional
approach to meet the needs of diverse learners.
PBS
TeacherLine courses help districts meet NCLB requirements
- The
NCLB's definition of "professional development"
(Title IX, Part A) specifies activities that are "high
quality, sustained, intensive and classroom-focused in order
to have a positive and lasting impact on classroom instruction
and the teacher's performance in the classroom." Our
six-week courses encourage learners to incorporate their
professional development into their classroom practices.
In particular, Classroom Link courses ask learners to implement
lessons with their class or with a small group of students,
and then reflect on the activity.
- NCLB
"Enhancing Education Through Technology" (Title
II, Part D) requires that every student be technologically
literate by the time he or she finishes eighth grade. Our
Technology Strategy (TECH) courses help educators incorporate
technology into the classroom, from using the Internet for
research to using the computer in the classroom. Also, all
PBS TeacherLine courses, even content area courses, include
the rich use of technology within the course (video, interactives,
etc.) to improve learning and introduce teachers to how
technology can be used in instruction.
PBS
TeacherLine courses help educators meet their professional
development goals
PBS
TeacherLine courses provide a structured format for learning
- Courses
are led by facilitators with master's degrees who have content
expertise and skills certified through our specially developed
Online Facilitation Training (OFT). Facilitators are trained
to guide a constructivist use of discussions, and to support
development of a professional community of practice.
- Facilitators
provide feedback and assessment against clearly stated objectives
to maximize teacher learning and subsequent impact in the
classroom.
PBS
TeacherLine courses offer districts and schools flexibility
and savings
- More
than 80 courses in core concepts of mathematics, reading/language arts,
instructional technologies, instructional
strategies, STEM, and science allow a district or school to provide
a broad range of courses from one source. (See the list of our partners.)
- The
online format accommodates both individuals and groups in
multiple locations, eliminating the need for substitutes
and special training facilities.
PBS
TeacherLine courses provide standardization
- A
district or school can enroll a cohort of its educators
in a private course that meets the school's strategic objectives
such as incorporating curriculum mapping in induction without
the need for in-service days or substitute teachers. This
course can be further customized to meet the needs of your
school or district. Contact us at 1-800-277-0829 to set
up a local course.
PBS
TeacherLine courses provide choice
- Individual
teachers may have professional development needs that are
unique within the district, such as a course in linear functions
that only a couple of teachers in a district may teach.
With PBS TeacherLine, districts can purchase a block of
courses and let their teachers select the courses they need.

"As a TeacherLine student turned facilitator, I am absolutely hooked on this format of learning. As a learner, I enjoyed collaborating with fellow educators from all over the nation. I was always amazed and inspired by the varying perspectives and ideas shared by professionals from various disciplines, grade levels and educational settings. As a facilitator, I love that I am able to continue to grow and gain knowledge from watching these exchanges occur amongst students in these professional learning communities.
As our world, and by necessity our teaching, moves more towards a digital environment and learning become less and less "traditional," I believe that it is crucial for us to think outside the box, reaching out beyond our school's walls, beyond our local community, and beyond our state's borders to learn from and along with others who have the same common goal: fostering learning."

Whether
you simply want to inform your faculty about TeacherLine courses,
run a private course for 20 district teachers, or pay for
courses for 100 learners, we can help you.
With TeacherLine you can:
►Schedule a Private Course
PBS TeacherLine offers more than 80 graduate level courses in a range of subject areas from preK-12. Is there a particular course or two you'd like to offer your educators? Just line up about 20 learners and we can schedule it when it meets your needs. You supply the learners and the start date and we'll do the rest. Private courses can be further customized to meet your needs too.
►Fund Course Enrollments
Need to meet the training needs of a diverse group of educators? With TeacherLine, you can establish an enrollment promo code account and specify the terms of use. Maybe you want to allow 25 teachers to take one Technology course each, or maybe you have a fund of $10,000 and will allow teachers to take as many 30hr ($295) courses as they want within a year. Whatever the terms, we can create an account that works for you.
With your account, we provide you with an enrollment promo code that you then provide to eligible learners; you can set the code to pay a course’s full cost or whatever portion of it you desire. We’ll provide you with learner completion reports and we only bill you for the code’s actual use, regardless of the fund’s reserve.
